Kokopelli is a mythical character often depicted as a hunchbacked flute player, originating from ancient Native American beliefs in the Southwest United States, and dating back over 3,000 years. Kokopelli was an image in Anasazi Indian mythology, a symbol of fertility, joy, celebration, and long life. He is also a minstrel, a spirit of music, a storyteller, a traveling salesman, a rainmaker, a healer, a teacher, a trickster magician, a seducer, and a fertilizer. Kokopelli possesses the wisdom of age. This joyful traveler has a lesson for everyone. His greatest lesson seems to be to show us that we should not take life too seriously. He is particularly present in the "Four Corners" country, a high plateau straddling four states (New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona), whose intersection is on the Navajo Indian Reservation. However, cave paintings depicting him have been found from Peru to Canada.
